The Italian defender expressed pride at his side's achievements in
the competition and insists that the defeat will only motivate them to
perform well in Serie A
Napoli defender Paolo Cannavaro could not hide his frustration at seeing
his side bow out of the Champions
League at the hands of Chelsea.
The San Paolo club had taken an
important step towards reaching the quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory in
the first leg, but Wednesday's 4-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge saw them
eliminated from the competition."It hurts to lose
like this," Cannavaro told Rai Sport. "We had so many chances
to score, but this is the result, we leave the competition with our
heads held high.
"We could barely hear anything on the field.
There was a little misunderstanding in Chelsea's second goal, which is a
shame."Cannavaro also dismissed suggestions that the defeat
will have a negative impact on the squad, as Napoli attempt to quality
for the Champions League for the second season in a row."We want
to finish third again, even more so after this game because playing in
stadiums like this is our goal," he added.Napoli, who sit fourth
in the Serie A table, will visit Udinese on Sunday.
